Memorable Manitobans: James Patterson (1841-1925)

Born at Almonte, Ontario in 1841, son of John and Elizabeth Patterson, he was one of the first graduates of McGill College (now McGill University). He returned to Almonte where he established a medical practice and was elected the first Mayor of the town. He moved to Winnipeg in 1882 and became, two years later, one of the founders of the Manitoba Medical College. He retired to Perth, Ontario in 1913, where he died on 13 March 1925.
