Memorable Manitobans: Robert J. Oliver (1866-1939)

Civil servant.

Born near Tweed, Ontario in 1866, he was educated at Belleville then worked as a school principal at Merrickville and Smith Falls. In 1911 he came to Winnipeg and later entered the provincial civil service as a municipal auditor. He traveled extensively through the province, auditing the financial records of some 100 municipalities. He was an elder, assistant Sunday school superintendent and board member at Grace United Church. He died at Winnipeg on 10 September 1939 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
