Memorable Manitobans: Geoffrey Wilson Northcott (1920-1978)

Pilot, war veteran.

Born near Rapid City, Manitoba in November 1920, son of Percy Clive Northcott, during the Second World War he enlisted in the RCAF and became one of Canada’s most decorated pilots, receiving the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). His military medals are displayed in the Western Canada Aviation Museum and his uniform and log books are at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. After the war, he became a founder of Trans Canada Airlines and, in 1955, was appointed General Manager of Transair based at Winnipeg. He died in October 1978.
