Memorable Manitobans: Eddy Bryce Munroe (1961-2011)

Indigenous artist.

Born at Stevenson Lake on 21 July 1961, son of Joseph and Catherine Munroe, he was raised at Garden Hill First Nation and attended Teulon Collegiate. After graduation, he lived at Winnipeg where, as a young man, he started painting and carving soapstone and was mentored by noted artists Carl Ray and Eddy Cobiness. He also received training from his uncle Jackson Beardy. His paintings can be found throughout the world. He also performed as a session musician. He died at Garden Hill on 8 May 2011.
