Memorable Manitobans: George Dyett Minty (1869-1911)


Born at Hamilton, Ontario on 2 June 1869, son of Francis C. and Maria Minty. After graduating with honours from Osgoode Hall and being called to the Ontario Bar in 1892, he joined the Toronto firm of Aylesworth, Barwick and Moss, and later entered into partnership with Francis A. Anglin. He came to Winnipeg in 1894 and was called to the Manitoba Bar that year. He joined the firm of Aikins and Culver, subsequently entering the firm of Tupper, Chippen and Tupper. In 1911, at the time of his death, Minty was a Barrister and solicitor with the firm of Tupper, Galt, Tupper, Minty & McTavish. In 1895, he married Louise Weatherton. They had no children. He was a member of the Manitoba Club. He died at his Winnipeg home, 811 Dorchester Street, on 2 July 1911.
