Music teacher, community activist.
Born in the Emerson district on 24 November 1919, daughter of Thomas and Ella McClelland, granddaughter of Elizabeth McClelland, she showed an aptitude for music at an early age, playing a pump organ at Aux Marais United Church started at the age of 11. After completing examinations at St. Mary’s Academy to become a registered music teacher, she taught music for many years and played at weddings, funerals, and accompanied church and community choirs.
On 15 June 1940, she married Ian Robert Taylor Milne (1909-2007) and farmed with him in the Aux Marais district for 65 years. She was instrumental in organizing the Post Road Heritage Group and served on committees that worked for the preservation of local history. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church in Emerson. In retirement, she moved to a seniors facility in Winnipeg where she continued to play music until two weeks before her death, which occurred at the age of 102 on 20 December 2021.
