Memorable Manitobans: Alexander Knight “Alex” Mills (1956-2006)Scientist, inventor. Born at Ottawa, Ontario on 17 May 1956, at an early age he moved to Souris, Manitoba, where he attended public schools from Grades 1 to 12. He then entered the University of Manitoba and graduated with degrees in medicine and computer science. Recognized for his creative genius and ability to apply fundamental mathematics and physics to the human condition, he developed new technology for monitoring the heart and blood system. He has developed many patented devices, including the Flowave 1000 (Woolsthorpe Inc.) a non-invasive monitor of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system. He died on 18 February 2006.
