Memorable Manitobans: Hugh McPherson (1845-1916)Farmer. Born in Pictou County, Ontario on 26 January 1845, son of Alexander McPherson and Elizabeth Murray, he came to Manitoba in April 1879 and settled on a farm eleven miles southeast of Brandon, in the Brandon Hills. He eventually owned 1,280 acres of land in the area, as well as 640 acres in the northern part of the province. In 1875 he married Margaret E. Sellers (?-?) of Pictou County and they had four children: Georgina J. McPherson, Maggie Hattie McPherson, Johnston McPherson, and Angus Sellers McPherson.
