Memorable Manitobans: Kenneth McNaught (1918-1997)Educator, historian. Born at Toronto, Ontario in 1918, he was educated at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto and taught at United College in Winnipeg, resigning over the dismissal of a colleague, Harry Crowe, in 1959. He then took up an appointment at the University of Toronto, where he taught until his retirement. He was a socialist called by many “the original Red Tory.” McNaught was the author of a biography of J. S. Woodsworth, A Prophet in Politics (1959), The Penguin History of Canada, and (with David Bercuson), The Winnipeg General Strike.
