School official, municipal official.
Born at Winnipeg on 29 [or 30] January 1892, son of Florence [E./C.] Davis (1865-1942) and Thomas Frederick McMahon (1858-1933), he gained employment in a bookkeeper role prior to the First World War. In August 1915, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and, in January 1916, was shipped overseas to Europe where he served in several bicycle units in France. He was discharged from the military via general demobilization in May 1919 and, upon returning to civilian life, went on to enjoy a full career with the Canadian Pacific Railway Express, from which he retired.
He was active in community affairs of East Kildonan, serving two terms as Councillor of the East Kildonan, as Trustee (14 years, including 1953-1958) of the East Kildonan School District, and as an Executive of the Bronx Park Community Centre.
On 4 August 1923, he married Isabella Penman “Isa” Gloag (1898-1985) at St. Boniface and they lived in East Kildonan spending over 44 years on Neil Avenue before moving to 1100 Henderson Highway. He had two children: Lois Anne McMahon (1935-1984, wife of Arthur Edward “Ted” Barnes) and Robert McMahon.
He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 19 February 1987 and his cremains were interred in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. He is commemorated by McMahon Place in Winnipeg.
