Memorable Manitobans: Selkirk James McKay (1923-1970)Cleric. Born at Old Kildonan in 1923, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and, for eleven years, worked as a draftsman for the Canadian National Railway. In 1959, he enrolled at the University of Winnipeg to prepare for a ministry in the United Church of Canada. Ordained in 1962, his first charge was at Glenboro United Church (1962-1964). From there, he was appointed to a chaplaincy at the Winnipeg General Hospital. He served as President of the Lord Selkirk Association of Ruperts Land. He died accidentally at St. John, New Brunswick on 15 December 1970 and was buried in the Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. Sources:Obituary, Winnipeg Tribune, 18 December 1970.
