Memorable Manitobans: Stephen Eric “Steve” McIntyre (1960-2024)

Actor, playwright.

Born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 26 July 1960, son of Joan and James McIntyre, he moved to Manitoba in his early childhood and lived at Winnipeg for most of his life, other than for periods at Calgary and Toronto. His 40-year career as a playwright and actor in theatre, television and film included performances in High Life (2009), The Pinkertons (2015), Gangland Undercover (2015-2016), and Mind of the Iguana (?). Considered by some to be the local “godfather of improv”, he was known for his powerful stage presence, signature laugh, and support for his fellow improvisors on stage. He died at Winnipeg on 9 May 2024.
