Broadcaster.
Born at St. Jean, Quebec on 27 June 1935, son of Charles and Helena McIlraith, much of his childhood was spent in southeastern Ontario. In high school he started radio station CJBQ at Belleville, Ontario. After finishing high school in 1953, he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where he worked at CFUN and CJOR, then at CKOV in Kelowna. In 1961, he joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation at Edmonton, Alberta.
In 1967, he transferred to Winnipeg and held a number of positions with CBC Manitoba until retirement in 1990, including coverage of the 1967 Centennial Voyageur Canoe Pageant and the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He was co-host of the Information Radio program.
While in Edmonton, he met and married Winnipeg-born Beatrice Helen “Bea” Lamond (1938-2022) and they subsequently had a son and two daughters. Active in numerous sports, including hockey, soccer, ringette, and track and field, he was named a CKY Sport Star of the Week and Volunteer of the Year by the Manitoba Sports Federation. He began running marathons at the age of 44.
He died at the Grace Hospital on 6 June 2019 and his cremains were interred at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
