Memorable Manitobans: William Robert “Bill” Martin (1929-2019)

Lawyer, judge.

Born at Winnipeg on 6 May 1929, son of Bill Martin and Iva Collins, he served in the Canadian military before attending the Manitoba Law School and being called to the Manitoba Bar in 1957. He practiced in family, criminal, and civil law, and was appointed a Crown Prosecutor in 1967. He was made a Queen’s Counsel in 1968. He served as a Provincial Court Judge from May 1970 to retirement in July 1994, presiding over weekly and monthly court sessions at The Pas, Flin Flon, Grand Rapids, and Lynn Lake. He died at Winnipeg on 5 October 2019.
