Grocery broker.
Born at Dicksonson’s Landing, Ontario on 18 January 1832, he moved at an early age to Montreal where he received an education. At the age of 25 he was transferred to Toronto as a travelling freight agent in the employ of the Grand Trunk Railway. He later became a travelling salesman and, eventually, manager for a wholesale grocer. He came to Winnipeg in May 1880 and established the wholesale grocery firm of W. L. Mackenzie and Company. It was incorporated in 1913 and he served as the company’s president to his death. He died unmarried at his Winnipeg residence on 15 February 1920 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
