Memorable Manitobans: Ronald Joseph “Ron” Long (1931-2005)

Chef.

Born in 1931, he was a mentor to many in the hospitality industry in Winnipeg and was awarded Manitoba Chef of the Year in 1983 and 2002, and Canadian Chef of the Year in 1990. He was a long-time and founding member of the Canadian Culinary Federation. After his death, the Federation created the Ron Long Memorial Award in the Hospitality category. With his wife Lillian he had six children. He died at Winnipeg on 5 July 2005.
