Memorable Manitobans: Walter Loewen (1929-2023)

Businessman.

Born at Winkler on 14 January 1929, son of William W. Loewen (1896-1971) and Olga Loewen (1903-1995), his family moved to Winnipeg where he attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He later joined his father's business The Piano House which sold used pianos. It grew into Yamaha Canada Music, the largest distributor of musical instruments in Canada. He served on several corporate boards and was involved with Christian charities. He died at Winnipeg on 14 February 2023.
