Memorable Manitobans: John Loewen (1930-2015)Farmer, municipal official. Born in the Twin Creek district on 7 March 1930, son of Isaac and Elisabeth Loewen, the family moved to a farm near Blumenort when he was 9 years old. He farmed until retirement at age 72. He served as a councilor and Reeve (1980-1986) for the Rural Municipality of Hanover and was a board member (1981-1989) and Chairman (1986-1989) for the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. He served 27 years on the Manitoba Sugar Beet Association and ten years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Sugar Beet Growers Association. He was also involved with the Manitoba Hog Marketing Board, Ste. Anne Co-op Oil, and Manitoba Mediation Board. He died at Winnipeg on 13 August 2015.
