Memorable Manitobans: Einar Kvaran (1859-1938)Journalist, poet. Born at Goddalir, Skagafjardarsysla, Iceland in 1859, son of a cleric, he graduated from the College of Iceland in 1881, and in 1882 became a doctoral candidate in economics at the University of Copenhagen. He came to Canada in 1885 and worked as a journalist in Winnipeg for 10 years. He edited two weeklies, Heimskringla and Lögberg. He began publishing his poetry and fiction in these papers. He was active in Liberal politics while in Canada. His well-known story “Vonir” was published in 1890. He died in 1938.
