Memorable Manitobans: Alexander Kucher (1896-1976)

Baker.

Born at Sobitka, Ukraine in 1896, he came to Canada in 1911 and lived at Winnipeg until his death. He worked as a baker for over 60 years and, for the last 20 years of his life, was the proprietor of the Kucher Ukrainian Bakery (later KUB Bakery) at 626 Stella Avenue, specializing in rye bread. He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 22 July 1976 and was buried in the Holy Family Cemetery.
