Biologist, community activist.
Born at Gimli on 20 May 1950, one of four children of Harold Christopher Kristofferson (1921-1989) and Kristine Gudrun Benson (1914-1996), he studied Biology at the University of Manitoba, receiving BSc, MSc (1978), and PhD (2003) degrees. A 30-year career as a fisheries biologist with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans took him to many places in northern Canada until retirement in 2007. In 1998, with colleagues Alex Salki and Mike Stainton, he obtained the Namao, a former Coast Guard ship, for studying the health of Lake Winnipeg. They formed the Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium and he was its Managing Director until his death. In recognition of this service, in 2016 he received a Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada. In 1992, he and his wife Arleen settled on an acreage at Camp Morton and he died there on 26 February 2023.
