Memorable Manitobans: Ernst Bernhard “Ernie” Krahn (1940-2014)

Accountant, municipal official.

Born at Winnipeg on 29 May 1940, son of Peter B. and Justina Krahn, brother of George Krahn, he was educated at Altbergthal School and Sommerfeld School where his father was a teacher. In 1963, he moved to Morden and remained there for the rest of his life, working as a chartered accountant. He established his own accounting firm, Krahn and Friesen, in 1982. He retired in 2013 due to poor health. Active in community affairs, he served on the United Way, Morden Kinsmen Club, Christian Programming Committee, and Morden Corn and Apple Festival. For 12 years, he was a municipal councillor and had a term as the Mayor of Morden (1993-1995). He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 2 February 2014.
