Memorable Manitobans: Arthur Patterson Ketchen (1866-1908)Journalist, agriculturalist. Born in Stanley Township, Huron County, Canada West, he did institute work for the Ontario Department of Agriculture in his early years. In 1900 he entered the Ontario Agricultural College, receiving his BSA degree in three years. He was appointed Assistant Livestock Commissioner for Ontario. In 1904 Ketchen came to Manitoba as Editor-in-Chief of the Nor’West Farmer. He was recognized as a high calibre judge of livestock at fairs, shows and exhibitions. He left Manitoba in 1906 to become Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture for Saskatchewan. He married Margaret Bell that same year, in Ontario. He died at Creelman, Saskatchewan on 26 June 1908.
