Born at Uxbridge, Ontario on 20 December 1877, son of Samuel Kennedy (1831-1905) and Mary Margaret Sinnett (1838-1923), he studied Mechanical Engineering through correspondence school and was working at Chicago, Illinois when, in 1912, he came to Winnipeg to work with architect John Danley Atchison as an expert on ventilation and sanitary matters. He worked as a consulting engineer until retirement in 1940.

He was married twice, first to Anna Gregory (1880-1904) with whom he had two children: Vincent Kennedy (1902-1935) and Evelyn Margaret Kennedy (1904-1986). The children were adopted by their aunt Mary Ann Gregory Krueger. Kennedy (1927-2010), and Helen Marjorie Kennedy (1929-2012, wife of Donald Ferguson Macklin). He was a Winnipeg city councillor (1928-1929) and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba, St. Charles Country Club, Manitoba Club, and St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church.

He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 11 May 1961 and was buried in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.
