Memorable Manitobans: Thomas Roy “Tom” Kelly (1940-2010)

Municipal official.

Born at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on 26 January 1940, son of Roy and Herma Kelly, he was raised in Lavenham and attended Lavenham and Edwin Schools. He started working in construction at the age of 17. Retiring at the age of 59 in 1999, after working for 24 years with Munro Construction, he became Reeve of the Rural Municipality of South Norfolk where he served until his death. He was an aircraft pilot, a member of the MacGregor Golf Course, and restored old automobiles. He died of lung cancer at Portage la Prairie on 10 April 2010 and was buried in Rossendale Cemetery.
