Journalist.
Born at Berlin, Germany on 9 July 1934, son of concert pianist Herbert Jager and stage actress Lily Soren, he attended a boarding school that was closed in the early years of the Second World War. After graduating from the Free University of Berlin, he immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled at Winnipeg.
He worked as a reporter for the German language newspaper Der Nordwesten then, in 1960, he joined the Winnipeg Tribune, moving in 1970 to the Winnipeg Free Press where he was medical reporter and, for a few years, a member of the press gallery for the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. He served in the Canadian military reserves (1979-1989) and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He retired from journalism on 31 December 1999 and was accompanied by a bagpiper as he left the building for the final time.
He was married twice, first on 21 October 1961 to Patricia Margaret Crosby at Knox United Church and they had a daughter. Around 1985, he married Mary.
He died at Winnipeg on 31 May 2025.
