Fisherman, fur manager.
Born on the Fisher River Cree Nation around 1926, son of William and Louise Hudson, he worked for Sigurdson Fisheries and became the first Treaty Indian to captain and own a whitefish boat on Lake Winnipeg. He spent winters hauling freight into remote First Nation communities in northern Manitoba. He later worked for a few years as an economic development officer for the federal Department of Indian Affairs in northern Quebec before being transferred to Thompson.
In 1976, he was hired as a fur manager for the Northeast Region of Manitoba Conservation. His fluency in Cree and familiarity with the fur industry made him highly effective in the position. Along with an elder from Nelson House, he established the Thompson Fur Table to enhance the economic returns to local trappers. In retirement, he moved to Winnipeg with his wife Paulette.
He died at the Grace Hospital on 7 August 1987 and was buried in the Fisher River Cemetery. He is commemorated by the Oswald Hudson Award presented at the Thompson Fur Table to a trapper who brings their furs for sale there.
