Memorable Manitobans: J. Albert Hebert (1880-1939)

Insurer, community activist.

Born at Artabaska, Quebec in 1880, he worked with his cousin in the Semi-Ready clothing company, and then with the C. H. McFayden Insurance company for ten years. He was the choir leader at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church for four years, as well as a member of the old Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the city band, and was a member of the Winnipeg musician’s union. Hebert was a fourth degree member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, as well as being a member of the St. Jean Baptiste society. He died at Winnipeg in April 1939.
