Memorable Manitobans: Robert Beverley “Bob” Hayes (1931-2020)

Civil servant.

Born at Wynyard, Saskatchewan on 5 June 1931, son of Frederick Hayes (c1886-1973) and Maude Marion Simpkins (c1894-1972), he and his family moved Winnipeg in 1948. He began working in the Engineering Department of the City of Winnipeg in 1950, transferring to the City Clerk's Department in 1966. He was promoted to Deputy City Clerk in 1979 and served as City Clerk (1987-1991). He also served as Secretary to the Winnipeg Police Commission. On 16 June 1956, he married Eunice “Uni” Busch and they had three sons and a daughter. He died at Winnipeg on 30 January 2020.
