Memorable Manitobans: John Milloy Gordon (1910-1992)

Journalist.

Born at Calgary, Alberta in 1910, son of William Gordon of Griswold, he was raised at Norway House. He attended St. John's College and graduated from the University of Manitoba. He had a long career in journalism, working as a reporter, City Editor, News Editor, and Managing Editor of the Winnipeg Tribune. He then was an editorial writer at the Winnipeg Free Press and later Executive Director of the University of Manitoba Alumni Association. He served as President of the Winnipeg Press Club (1943) and was a member of the board for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

On 28 October 1936, he married Marguerite Marie Guertin (1910-1996, daughter of Ernest Guertin) and they had two sons, including Anthony Edmond “Tony” Gordon (?-1993). He spent retirement in Winnipeg and New Mexico. He moved to Toronto, Ontario in July 1992 and died there on 25 October 1992. He was entombed in the Guertin family mausoleum in the Ste. Agathe Cemetery.
