Memorable Manitobans: Nancy Joan Carr Gollmer (1929-1991)

Militia officer.

Born at Winnipeg on 8 August 1929, she graduated in arts from United College in 1949, then joined the militia in 1954. In 1957 she was made an officer, and after 1965 she was part of the Fort Garry Horse militia regiment. In 1971 she was one of the first women to attend the Militia Officers Staff College, and she became the first militia lieutenant-colonel in Canada in 1975. She commanded NLCC Lord Selkirk in Winnipeg from 1980 to 1986. She died at Winnipeg on 1 July 1991.
