Memorable Manitobans: Louis-Raymond Giroux (1841-1911)
Cleric. A college chum of Louis Riel, he came to Red River in 1868 and served as priest at the Roman Catholic cathedral and at Ste. Anne des Chênes. He served as chaplain to Riel’s forces at Fort Garry during the Red River Rebellion of 1869-70. He was later Professor and Rector of the Collège de Saint-Boniface. He died at Ste.
