Memorable Manitobans: Mary McLaren “Mae” Gardiner (?-1997)


Born at Forfar, Scotland, she came to Winnipeg at the age of seven. She became an educator, working at Thalberg School, Teulon School, and Garson School before joining the staff of Selkirk South Ward School as teacher (1928-1943) and Principal (1943-1968). She moved to the Middlechurch Home in 1991 and later died, unmarried, at Winnipeg on 3 February 1996.
