Memorable Manitobans: Mitchell Isaac “Mitch” Funk (1959-2024)

Musician.

Born on 17 July 1959, son of Isaac “Ike” Funk (?-?) and Joy Forsyth, he grew up in the north end of Winnipeg before moving to Windsor Park in the 1960s. He attended Pierre Radison Collegiate. He became active in the city's music community in the 1970s, performing as a vocalist with the bands Personality Crisis (1979-1984) and Honest John (1987-1998). He was known for his booming baritone voice and stage presence. He was also interested in painting abstract art. He had a long career as an olderly at the St. Boniface Hospital. He died on 2 December 2024, predeceased by his partner Evelyn Nancy Soper (1961-2023, daughter of Robert Joseph Soper).
