Raymond Christian Friesen
|
Businessman.
Born at Altona on 15 August 1922, son of David Wiens Friesen and Sara Klippenstein (1882-1963), he joined his father and brothers in the family business in 1946 as the salesman, often travelling for weeks at a time to expand the client base to which the company sold school and business supplies. Immediately following his discharge, he became an employee of the family business. In 1951, he became the Vice-President of the newly established D. W. Friesens & Sons. He served as President (1975-1985) when he became the chairman of the board of directors. He was a director and President of Red River Valley Mutual Insurance (1971-1989) after which he retired.
On 28 April 1946, he married Kay Wiebe and they had a daughter and two sons. He served as the Mayor of Altona (1951-1953).
He died at the Concordia Hospital on 23 December 1990.
