Memorable Manitobans: Charlie Au Foo (1898-1980)

Restauranteur, community activist.

Born in China on 13 November 1898, he came to Winnipeg in 1918 where he was employed with Western Packers until 1944 when he became a partner in Chan’s Restaurant. He was active in numerous charities and benevolent associations. He was Honourary President of the Manitoba Chinese Benevolent Association.

He married Frances Victoria Phillips (?-?)

In 1973, he sold his business interests and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. He died there on 25 May 1980.
