Memorable Manitobans: Barbara Ann Featherstone (1950-2008)

Nurse.

Born at Chicago, Illinois on 21 February 1950, she graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing and also obtained an Associate of Science Degree. She served as a nurse in the US Army and was part of the medical staff for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 1986, she came to Canada where she continued her nursing career at the St. Boniface Hospital, Village Clinic and for many years volunteered with both the Canadian and Manitoba Hemophilia Societies. In 1994, she joined the Misericordia Health Centre and was responsible for creating the vision and concept of Health Links, the first telephone triage service in Canada. For this achievement she was nominated for a YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Award. She died at Winnipeg on 23 November 2008.
