Memorable Manitobans: James Stephen “Jim” Farrell (1933-2024)

Broadcaster.

Born at Iroquois Falls, Ontario on 10 April 1933, his youth was spent at Nipigon, Ontario. After attending the Radio and Television Arts Program at the Ryerson Institute of Technology, he began a long career in broadcasting. He was a news reporter at CJAY Television, co-hosted the program “Your Government” and produced and hosted the live outdoor sports program “Manitoba Sportsman”. He was a news editor and director at CKRC Radio and a co-anchor of the news at CKND Television. He and wife Norma Jean had four children. He was passionate about horse racing and owned standardbred and thoroughbred horses. He served as President of the Manitoba Harness Horseman Association. He died at Winnipeg on 11 April 2024.
