Memorable Manitobans: Paul Faraci (1928-2018)

Entrepreneur.

Born at Winnipeg on 13 September 1928, son of Sicilian immigrant Phillip “Phil” Faraci (1907-1967) and Winnipeg-born Michelina “Mae” Guarino (1912-1999), he was an entrepreneur who, in the 1960s, owned the Fort Garry and St. Vital driving schools. He also owned restaurants and is credited with inventing the Pizza Pop in 1964, later selling the recipe to his business partners who later re-sold it to Pilsbury, which retains the name today. Family members later recreated it as “Paul’s Original Pizza Snacks”. He died at Vernon, British Columbia on 6 February 2018 and was buried with his parents in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
