Memorable Manitobans: John Johann Enns (1929-2020)

Lawyer, judge.

Born near Ste. Elizabeth on 19 December 1929, son of Aeltester Johann Enns and Agathe Enns, he grew up at Winnipeg. After attending university and law school, he began working for the Manitoba Department of Justice and spent ten years as a Crown Attorney. He then served as a provincial court judge, in the criminal division, from June 1968 to May 1999. In 1957, he married nurse Martha Friesen (1930-2015) and they had four children. He was a lifelong member of First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg. He died at Winnipeg on 19 October 2020.
