Businessman.
Born at Glasgow, Scotland around 1890, he came to Canada in 1914. After teaching music at Swan River for a few years, he came to Winnipeg in 1923 where he and his wife founded the St. John's Music Store. He was its President for the next 40 years. He was well-known to professional and amateur musicians throughout Canada and took a special interest in school and college bands and orchestras. He was a member of the Masons and he conducted the Khartum Shriners Orchestra until retirement in 1957. On 21 July 1917, he married Beatrice Umphrey (c1890-1977) and they had two children: James Umphrey “Jim” Douglas (1918-1975, husband of Sarah Jane) and Margery Beatrice Douglas (1924-2010, wife of Gordon Plewes). He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 23 July 1962 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
