Memorable Manitobans: Donald G. Creighton (1902-1979)Historian. He earned high rank in the field of Canadian biography for the excellence of his two volumes on Sir John A. Macdonald: The Young Politician published in 1952 and The Old Chieftain, 1955. Other books to his credit are: The Commercial Empire of the St. Lawrence, 1937; Dominion of the North: A History of Canada, 1944; The Story of Canada, 1959; and The Road to Confederation, 1964. Among his other awards have been honorary degrees seven of Canada’s major universities, including a D.Litt. in 1937 from the University of Manitoba. His articles for the Manitoba Historical Society:
