Memorable Manitobans: William Compton (1850-1925)

Farmer.

Born at Christian Malford, Wiltshire, England on 9 October 1850, he married Mary Ann Haddrell (1848-1893) on 21 December 1870 and subsequently had eight sons and two daughters, including George Compton. He came to Canada in 1875 and settled at South Oxford, Ontario. He moved to Manitoba in 1877 and settled on a farm near Manitou. He died in June 1925.
