Memorable Manitobans: William “Bill” Comaskey (1945-2011)

Civil servant, municipal official.

Born at Drumcree, Westmeath, Ireland on 14 December 1945, he immigrated to Canada in 1966 and settled at Thompson where he worked in various jobs at INCO for 14 years. He then spent 31 years with the Manitoba government, first as Mines Inspector at Thompson until 2005 and later as Director of the Mine Safety Branch. In 1989, he joined the Thompson city council and served as the Mayor of Thompson (1991-2006). He retired in 2006 and moved to Winnipeg where he died on 2 June 2011 and was buried in the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
