Journalist.
Born at Winnipeg on 30 October 1911, son of D’alton Corry Coleman and Anna Grant (?-1920), he began a career in journalism at the Winnipeg Tribune, in 1931. He worked successively for the Vancouver Province, Edmonton Journal, Edmonton Bulletin, Canadian Press, Globe and Mail, and Southam newspapers. Considered the “dean of sportswriters”, he was known for his “colourful writing, encyclopedic memory, dapper dress and ever-present cigar”. In the 1970s, he married widow Margaret Jean McGillivray “Maggie” Clark (1918-2010). In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the Order of Canada (1974), Canadian News Hall of Fame, Hockey Hall of Fame, Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, and Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame (1989). He died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 14 January 2001.
