Memorable Manitobans: Leon Allen Cole (1939-2019)

Broadcaster.

Born at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 29 December 1939, son of Allen Cole and Jean Shaw, he studied music at the Royal Conservatory of Music and University of Toronto before working as a radio broadcaster, church organist, and composer. He came to Winnipeg to host CBC’s national radio programs Soundtrack and RSVP (1985-1995). He wrote about his experiences in the 1996 book Dear RSVP. He died at Halifax on 5 December 2019, survived by a wife and four children.
