Walter Elliott Chrismas

Farmer, faith healer.
Born at London, England on 11 December 1850, he came to Canada for a short time in 1885 then returned in 1889 to farm at Minnedosa until 1897, then at Oxbow, Saskatchewan. From 1917 to his death, known as “Father Chrismas”, he gained repute as an evangelist and faith healer in Winnipeg from 1917 to his death. He was a striking figure with long flowing hair down to his shoulders. He died at his Winnipeg home, 562 Corydon Avenue, on 29 June 1923 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. He was survived by a wife, two sons, and two daughters.
