Farmer.
Born at Exeter, Ontario on 12 February 1849, he came to Manitoba in 1878 and homesteaded in the vicinity of Darlingford. He added to his land holdings and settled his three sons. He helped to find and locate homesteads for early land seekers in the Snowflake district and was instrumental in taking Thomas Greenway to Crystal City and locating a homestead for him.
He was married twice, first to Sarah Ann Heaman (1849-1894) with whom he had at least eight children: Wilmott Ching (1873-?), Alice Ching (1875-?), Maria Ching (1877-?), Thomas Lerue Ching (1878-?), Lily May Ching (1880-?), William Percy Ching (1882-?), Florence Beatrice Ching (1888-?), and John Wesley Ching (1890-?). On 2 June 1896, he married Margaret Andrew (1853-1935) at Morden. He helped to build and organise the Zion Methodist Church.
He died at Morden on 16 May 1927 and was buried in the Morden Hillside Cemetery.
