Businessman.
Born at Toorof, Gomel, Belarus in 1876, son of Simon Chechik and Zissel Sluczak, he moved from Minsk, Russia to Winnipeg in 1904 and became engaged in the meat and grain business. He also founded the Winnipeg Cold Storage Company.
On 15 May 1908, he married Bertha Blankstein (1888-1976, sister of Max Zev Blankstein) at Winnipeg and they had six children: Vera Chechik (1909-2001), Sylvia Sara Chechik (1910-1955), Gertrude “Gertie” Chechik (1911-1989), Mordecai Wolf “Max” Chechik (1913-2011), Maurice Manly Chechik (1914-1998), and Benjamin Moses “Ben” Chechik (1918-1997). The family lived at 853 Boyd Avenue (1913-?) and 18 Cathedral Avenue (1930-?). He was a President of the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association and Beth Jacob Synagogue. He later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.
He died on a business trip at Montreal, Quebec on 12 March 1947 and was buried in the Vancouver Jewish Cemetery.
