Memorable Manitobans: Edwin Otto “Ed” Carlson (1910-2006)

Businessman, community activist.

Deeply involved in the Swedish community of Manitoba, in 1962 he was appointed Honorary Consul for Manitoba and Saskatchewan by the King of Sweden and in this capacity was awarded the Order of the North Star for dedicated service. He was a Shriner for 53 years and was one of the founding members of the Motor Patrol, also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, Masons, Scandinavian Centre, Lodge Strindberg, Sylvia Recreational Company (Vasalund), Scandinavian Choir and the Winnipeg Executives Association. He died at Winnipeg on 7 January 2006.
